Go-to evening makeup autumn 2016

The season is changing from summer to autumn. Another thing that is changing is my go-to evening makeup look. In this post I will introduce you to some of my staples in my current makeup drawer and what I do with them.

the-body-shop-all

The first step that I always do when I want my makeup to last longer than six hours is apply a primer. For that I use The Body Shop Pore Minimiser.  It will calm possible redness, and it gives a matte finish.

After the Pore Minimiser I apply The Body Shop Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation**. I am in the tone 01 Fuji Peony.

The foundation gives a light and smooth semi-matte finish. The jar is designed with a built in mirror and it comes with an applicator. The applicator lays separately on the top of the lid which covers the cushion. Although the applicator does a pretty good job, I prefer to use my Beauty Blender to apply the foundation. The Cushion Foundation has a subtle floral scent which I really like. With a primer it stays on all day. Plus, it is even suitable for sensitive skin, which is always a good thing to have.

After the foundation I set it with NYX HD Finishing Powder. The powder gives a matte, luminous glow. I have quite oily skin and sometimes it can get shiny throughout the day. With this powder I don’t have to worry, It keeps my skin’s shininess at bay without a problem.

Once the powder is on, the next step is applying a blush. This time I am using The Balm Fratboy blush. Pink coral tone is a perfect addition to create a healthy rose flush on my cheeks. The blush is well pigmented and I need to use very little to get the result I want.

After the blush comes highlighter. For that I use The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer highlighter. Like the blush, it is well pigmented, and with a small amount on your brush it goes a long way. Plus, the highlighter and the blush stay on all day, so it’s a twelve hour, (at least), worry free healthy glow.

maybelline-browdrama

I also like to add a bit of a tone to my brows. For that I use The Maybelline Browdrama Pro Palette. It has eyebrow gel, powder and highlighter for the under brow area to define the line better. This time I use only powder.

Now the face is done, I move to my eyes.

First, I use NYX White Eye Shadow Base. The formula is soft and smooth, which makes applying it easy. Like an eyeshadow base should, it makes eyeshadows pop more. Since it is a white base, the effect is stronger.  The base also prevents eyeshadows from creasing or fading away. This step is crucial because without it the eyeshadows I am using for this look will crease on my eyes with four hours.

I use The Body Shop Down To Earth Eye Palette**. It is an eyeshadow palette which is combined with natural nude colours. It has tones from pale sand, cool metals to warm clay and dark burgundy and black. The shadows are really easy to blend and with the primer they stay on all day. While applying the shadows the only possible fallout candidates are the darker shades. If that should happen, I brush it away with my powder brush.

For this look I use Peru Clay as the base colour. As a crease colour, I use Kilimanjaro Rock, which I deepen in the outer corners of my eyes with Bengal Granite. I use the same tone on my lower lashline too.

The eyeshadow palette has a really good range of shades. With this palette you can do a light day makeup look as well as darker smokey eye for evenings.

What I also love about the palette is that it comes with a full size mirror. It is really handy if I should decide to take only this palette on a trip with me.

As a mascara I use Covergirl Lashblast Volume Mascara. With two coats it gives me long, dramatic, clump-free, curled, and separated lashes. It doesn’t smear or flake through the day.

On my lips I use NYX Butter Lipstick in the tone Ripe Berry. It is perfect dark berry tone for cozy cold autumn days. It stays on well while moisturising my lips. After eating, touching up is required but overall it is perfect. I think it gives the look the final dot on the i.

  1. Great post! I was thinking of buying the pore minimizer from the body shop because I need a matte finish of my foundation but I am not sure if it works that well. What is your opinion? I mean is your face shiny after 2 or 3 hours? ❤️

    • Thank you! The pore minimizer gives me a matte finish, keeps my skin’s oiliness at bay, but it doesn’t affect the finish of foundation. If you have lightweight foundation with dewy finish then it doesn’t matter what you have under it. I use products that have matte finish and if I should get shiny, it doesn’t happen before 8-10 hours. Of course, where I live, the temperature is cool too, so my face doesn’t really sweat. I think you should definitely give it a go because it is a great product! This is my third tube of it 😊
